Madison Cunningham - Weekly Covers, Volume 1 (2019)

A couple of weeks ago (I am writing this in June 2026), a close friend of mine suggested that I should listen to the music of singer-songwriter Madison Cunningham. I was impressed with her singing, guitar playing, and songwriting. It turns out that she wants had a YouTube series where she posted different cover versions most every week. I have gathered them all together. There's enough for two volumes. This is the first volume.

Cunningham is relatively new artist by the standards of this classic rock type blog. She is 29 years old at the time I'm writing this in 2026. She has released four albums of original music as well as a collaborative album with Andrew Bird, in which she and Bird covered every single song from the obscure 1973 album "Buckingham Nicks" by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, about a year before they joined Fleetwood Mac and became superstars.

Rolling Stone magazine has described her music as "a new spin on West Coast, folk rock, with classical tendencies, electric guitars, jazz school chord changes, and alt rock strut, all living under the same roof." I am normally pretty picky when it comes to relatively new singer, songwriter types, so in my opinion, she is a special talent. I strongly suggest you check out her original songs. But by listening to this album, you can at least get a sense of her musical talent in covering songs by others. Just looking at the list of original artists for this album shows that she has good musical taste.

Here is her Wikipedia link if you want to know more:

All of these songs were posted on her YouTube page. I downloaded them, converted them to audio, and made MP3s out of them.

By the way, although I have a special fondness for music from the 1960s to the 1980s, I would like to think that I am always open to suggestions about relatively new musical acts. If you are excited about one or more such musical acts, please let me know. Perhaps it will result in me making albums like this one.

This album is one hour and one minute long.

Here are the original artists for the songs:

01 Sweet Adeline - Elliott Smith
02 Poses - Rufus Wainwright
03 Alive in the World - Jackson Browne
04 No Surprises - Radiohead
05 Dayton, Ohio, 1903 - Randy Newman

  1. This is great Paul!!! I loved your Elle Cordova series as well. Might I recommend another prolific YouTuber who happens to be a world class guitarist as well....Josh Turner. He does a lot of great covers and collaborates with Elle Cordova and many others. You should definitely check out his cover of Sultans of Swing with Mary Spence and Operator (Croce) with Elle. You will be impressed, if not also blown away. He has enough material for several volumes but I am hoping you give him a try with just one to start! PS - You often hold surveys of artists to post which sometimes include Nils Lofgren. I guess he never gets enough votes but I would live it if you publish something from Nils one day. I would even volunteer to do a guest post got you if you ever wanted. Thanks for listening! I love your blog and visit daily without fail! All the Best, Eric from NJ
