Paul McCartney - Soundcheck Songs, Volume 3: 1993 (Unknown Locations)

There are so very many great musical acts out there, and the BBC project I've been working on has pushed me to post music from many more artists. With all that going on, sometimes some artists have been lost in the mix. Paul McCartney is a case in point. I've been slowly working my way through his solo career chronologically, but I'm still only at 1993. (And I haven't even started with John Lennon's solo career yet.) Here's another album from him, to keep that effort going.

This is the third of four albums of songs from the soundchecks he did during his 1993 world tour. The reason there are so many of these songs is because McCartney has his people record all the soundchecks with excellent sound quality. Then he played many of them in his 1995 radio show series "Oubu Joobu." So everything here is unreleased on record, but it all sounds great due to usually coming from that radio show. 

But one downside is that sometimes he didn't make clear which soundcheck the songs were from. So this volume is made up of all the unknowns. We don't know the dates or the locations. But that doesn't matter much, because the music is just as good, and the sound quality is just as good, as with the other volumes in this series.

I prefer these soundcheck performances over recordings of his actual concerts from the time period, because he was much more adventurous about what he'd play. This volume is typical. "Lady Madonna," "Coming Up," and "Another Day" are all big hits that he played frequently on that tour, and "C'Mon People" was a new song he played a lot too. But the others are generally covers that he rarely did in concert, if at all. "Set This Town on Fire" appears to be an original that he never played in concert. (I've included that one on one of the stray tracks collections I've made too.)
