Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas - BBC Sessions, Volume 2 (1965-1967)

Here's the second and last BBC album from British Invasion band Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas.

This band had lots of success at the height of the British Invasion, which was roughly from 1963 to 1965. But musical tastes were changing rapidly and drastically. Some musical artists kept up and prospered, and others didn't. These guys did not. By 1967, they were far out of step with the times. Only the last two songs are from that year. Kramer broke up with the Dakotas that year. He tried to have a solo career, but didn't have success with it.

That said, the songs that are here are solid if you're into this style of music. Everything here remains unreleased. Many of the songs here were never officially released by the band in any form, such as "It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue," "Milk Cow Blues," "Bony Moronie," and "If I Were a Carpenter."

Everything here comes from "Top of the Pops" BBC studio sessions. That show was broadcast all over the world (mostly current and former British empire countries). Transcription discs were shipped out all over, allowing these recordings to survive in pristine condition.

This album is 42 minutes long.

  1. Town of Tuxley Toy Maker features the Bee Gees, who also wrote the song.
