Leon Russell - Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY, 1-15-2013

Recently (as I write this in mid-October 2026), I've been focusing on getting more concerts from the April 2026 Port Chester soundboard leak ready to post. I have about thirty of those ready to go, with the cover art made and all, so expect to see a lot more of those posted in the near future. Here's one of those starring Leon Russell.

Russell had a very long and successful music career, starting as a session musician in the early 1960s and then becoming a solo star in the early 1970s. His popularity declined some after the 1970s, but he had a strong late comeback in 2010, thanks to a joint album with Elton John called "The Union." This is a good concert to sum up his career, because his health was starting to fail. He died three years later, in 2016, at the age of 74.

Like all the recordings from the Port Chester soundboard leak, the sound quality is excellent. However, for this one, the lead vocals were rather low in the mix. Perhaps that was just the way it really was at the concert. But I didn't like it, so I used the MVSEP program to boost the vocals relative to the instruments for all the songs. I also boosted the volume of the cheering at the ends of songs.

This album is an hour and 19 minutes long.
