Jimmie Spheeris - Ebbets Field, Denver, CO, 9-22-1975, Early Show

Dammit! I was planning on posting the Ebbets Field radio broadcast for Willie Nelson next, because I've been going chronologically and his concert is from early September 1975. But when I took a look at it today, I noticed that I misspelled his name in the cover art! (Willie Neslon - d'oh!) Since I am not at home, I can't fix it right now. But I will fix it and post it when I get back from vacation, which will be in a little over a week from now. So that means that next up in this series is an Ebbets Field concert for singer-songwriter Jimmie Spheeris. There are recordings for the early show and late show, so naturally I'm starting with the early show.

I have heard of and usually listened to a lot of the music of virtually all of these musical acts that performed Ebbets Field in the 1970s that I'm posting concerts for. But I have to admit that I had never even heard of Spheeris before putting these albums together. I do like what I heard though.

He released his debut album ""Isle of View" in 1971. The albums "The Original Tap Dancing Kid" and "The Dragon Is Dancing" followed in 1973 and 1975 respectively. Most of the songs performed here come from those three albums. He would release another album in 1976. But after that, his record contract ended and he didn't get a new contract, due to poor sales. However, in 1984, he finally finished another album. But the day that he finished recording it, he was killed while riding a motorcycle because he was struck by a drunk driver in a van. He was only 34 years old. It took 16 years before his final album was released.

It's hard to describe his musical style. So I will just quote a paragraph from his Wikipedia entry: "Spheeris I primarily composed on the guitar and piano. His musical genre was generally in the folk music and singer, singer, traditions, although later work, explore, jazz, rock, music, jazz-rock fusion, and new wave music."

If you want to know more about him, here is his Wikipedia page:

This concert, along with the late show from the same night, has been officially released under the name "Alive in America." But I also believe that it has gone out of print, just like all of his other albums. Unfortunately, his stuff didn't sell that well. That wasn't due to a lack of talent though.

This album is one hour long.

The cover image is from some point in the 1970s. I don't know any details beyond that.
