Richard has an an on again and off again relationship with the Shadows. They were his backing band when he first found fame in the late 1950s. The Shadows were no ordinary backing band, because they went on to have many hits of their own, all instrumentals, including five Number One songs in Britain. The Shadows first broke up in the late 1960s. But they reunited with Richard in 1978, 1984, and again in 1989 and 1990, which included this concert. They would reunite with him a few times after this as well, with the final reunion in 2010.

The cover image is from this exact concert. For most of the other covers from this festival I was able to use clear photos. But in this case, I took a screenshot from a video of this concert, so it's a bit low-res.
Love these festival shows. Have you thought of trying Woodstock '94. It seems to be forgotten now between '69 and '99, but had a lot of good performances.
ReplyDeleteI haven't considered that, but I'll look into it. I thought it was a fiasco. Or maybe that was the 1999 one?
DeleteYes, that was the '99 concert. '94 has a really interesting mix of '69-era acts (Dylan, CSN, Joe Cocker) and 90s alternative (Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, Cranberries) but seems to be forgotten now.
DeleteI've started working on it - great idea. I didn't know there were so many good acts, and that so much is available as bootlegs with excellent sound quality. I've found about 35 hours of music, so it'll take some time to process. It is surprisingly forgotten.
DeleteFor those who are curious, here's the Wikipedia page on it:

Awesome. The entire concert was a PPV which is why there are so many with good sound quality. But like you said, the '99 Woodstock has basically erased this one from the collective memory. Looking forward to it!
