Phew! Yesterday, I uploaded about 150 albums, as I replace the ZippyShare links. Today, in the same amount of time, only about 50 albums were uploaded. I have no idea why, but that does not bode well for me replacing all the links quickly.
The good news is I've finished all the artists with names starting with B (including last names, like David Bowie). That may be the letter with the most albums, or at least it's close. So hopefully the others won't take so long.
The bad new is that someone informed me that the file sharing platform I've started to use, Mega, is vigilant about taking down any copyright violators. And while the vast majority of the material I post here is officially unreleased, I do have a lot of released stuff scattered in there too. I certainly don't want to have to go through the ordeal of replacing all the download links again.
So what I think I'm going to do going forward is use Mega for all the albums that are mostly or entirely unreleased material. Mega links have the advantage of not dying after 30 days of inactivity, unlike most other similar file sharing platforms. But for albums that are mostly or all released material, I will try to use something else. I'll probably go with Workupload. I see they wait 90 days of inactivity before deleting a link, so at least that's somewhat better.
But if anyone has suggestions on what I should do, opinions about Workupload, Mega, etc..., please let me know ASAP. Thanks.
Oh, and also, if you see any A or B links that are still broken or go to the wrong album, please let me know. I almost certainly am making some mistakes.
Check these out https://megaup.net and https://drop.download.
ReplyDeleteNOT SURE about their policies. I know that megaup is being used by a few veteran blogs out there and the links are up and healthy. also about mega and their copyright rules, i know about MANY blogs that uploading tones of released material. all in different genres and the links are still up and working so that's weird. i am 50/50 on the facts of how the links are still up but they are as i literally just checked to compare. either way try the first two
Okay, I'll check them out. Maybe one of them is better than Workupload. Getting take down notices is a pretty random thing. I got one from Tom Petty a couple years ago. I just got a second one from Michelle Shocked last month. I got a personal email about that one, so it wasn't from a bot.
DeleteLol really? Tom Petty (before his death of course) sent you an email? wondering if him and Michelle were polite in regards to the take down.
DeleteNo, just the Michelle Shocked one. I just got a legal notification about the Tom Petty.

DeleteI see. Thanks for the quick reply as well as BIG THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR US MUSIC LOVERS! :) have a good week and hopefully all links issues will be solved soon. cheers!
DeleteThe best way of avoiding copyright violations is to scramble the filenames, so as not to alert the bots. Don't use artist names or titles relating to that artist when naming the zipfiles.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing that, I think. I still want something close, so I'll be able to recognize at a glance what the files are. But I change things a bit to hopefully trip up the bots. For instance, for the Chambers Brothers, I call the file:
DeleteChambersB 1969 Colour Me Pop, London, Britain, 8-1969 atse
Do you think that's good enough?
Possibly that's enough, though with some of bigger artists, more encryption might be better
DeleteInterestingly, Zippy hasn't worked here in the UK for a few years now, so I've always had to use a VPN. Though a few minutes ago, I was sent a Zippy link that worked without adds or pop ups. Very strange indeed.
DeleteIf you spell the file name backwords or do the Witch House thing & switch letters for similar symbols (4 instead of A, etc.), no bot will ever know.
DeleteP.S
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO Paul!!! Keeping this going with non stop quality posts :)
just wanted to say thank you.
ReplyDeleteJUST UPLOAD THEM TO YOUR OWN SERVER CHECK OUT YANDEX
ReplyDeleteYandex is a Russian company. I don't want to support them, with the Ukraine war going on.
DeleteWorkupload you can leave them up, or, set how many days you want them up, on my site they are up 90 days using workupload.
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, Workupload is a very reliable platform, with none of the truly disagreeable stuff of Zippy (especially the terrible pop-up ads for porn sites and scams, though seeing how they were slowly dying, you can at least blame their desperation for this stuff getting worse the last years).
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear. Thanks. But the links last unless there's 90 days of inactivity, right?
DeleteI have used MEGA since megaupload was shut down in 2012 & MEGA took its place. Stuff I posted from that time onward is still available. I have had only two items removed for copyright violation in that time. Both were requested by the artists (Van Morrison & Rodney Bingenheimer).
ReplyDeleteI use Workupload sometimes for short-term storage, as they are a simple no-hassle server. But as Judemac commented above, they only stay for 90 days so if you want any permanancy, not so good.
I had seven seperate MEGA free 50G accounts with seven different gmail addresses. Recently I went for a premium account with them, $10US per month for 2T storage. I have been gradually transferring material there from my other accounts with not much trouble. I have been blogging since 2007 & still I have plenty of storage space left out of 2T. I have found that MEGA does not mess much with my archives.
Just my personal experience.
Thanks for the info. With Workupload, files get deleted after 90 of inactivity, or 90 days, period?
Delete90 days inactive. For me on older files from years ago, that just doesn't work. Certain ones just gradually start to disappear. Not many, but enough to be a nuisance.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about nationality, it's the uloz.to platform, but it's wonderful, I've never had any problems with it.
ReplyDeleteNot sure of the policies, but maybe Google Drive?
ReplyDeleteYou can always add time to those Workupload days on line. My site works better with just so many files. Think NØ has been lucky, Think I have just one file left on there (MEGA) if that with my 3rd go around on MEGA (deleted my last two accounts). So I am testing a new one on my latest posts, see how that works out. Watch out for Solidfiles, that server is always going down.
ReplyDeleteWhen Workupload links die, is there any way of knowing? One annoying thing I discovered with Zippyshare was that it only gave me a list of active links. I could only figure out the dead ones by seeing what was not on the list. That's really hard.
DeleteSendspace tells you what went dead but files good for 30 unless they are downloaded like Zippyshare & they go longer. One of my files on Sendspace lasted 60 days, lots of downloads.
DeleteZippy is back : https://zippysha.re/
ReplyDeleteand Rapidshare too : https://rapidshare.nu/
Think these are new people using their servers and copy catting the old server names, ya gotta wonder, are they going to be counted on in the future. (?)
DeleteYeah, I don't trust them, if they've only been around a short time.
DeleteYou were faster. Just wanted to post the same message.
ReplyDeleteKatfile is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteNo it doesn't exactly, I print out a copy on paper because it does date the day the link goes dead. I'd never put my eggs in one basket like zippyshare, but that's me.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand. Can you explain more about the link going dead, and what you do? Thanks.
