More Links Fixed

I've replaced a lot more ZippyShare links with Mega ones. All the links where the artist names begin with A or B have been replaced. But since then, I've only been replacing the albums that contain all or mostly unreleased material. I've done that for C, D, E, and most of F as I write this.

For the other albums that contain a lot of released material, I'm going to go with a different file sharing service, since I've heard Mega can be harsh with copyright violators. Three strikes in a six month window and all your links die. If nothing else, it makes sense that I don't put all my eggs in one basket, so if something like that happens, I'll only lose a portion of the links.

The problem is, I still haven't decided what the other file sharing service should be. For them to be lax on the copyright issue is key. I'd also like one where inactive links last longer than 30 days. Another problem I had with ZippyShare is that links would sometimes die for no reason, once that definitely weren't inactive for 30 days, and I wouldn't know why or be able to see which ones died like that, so I wouldn't know to fix them. I was going to go with Workupload, since inactive links last 90 days, but I've been told they have links randomly die for no reason too. I'd also like something that's free, or at least I don't have to pay too much. I'll be paying some for Mega already, since their free service isn't nearly enough space for me. As a bonus, it would be nice if I could be told how many people are downloading each file. (Mega doesn't do that, as far as I can tell.)

So if anyone has advice on what I should do, please tell me, so I can fill in the other links. The copyright issue especially isn't something you learn from official policies, but is more of a word of mouth thing. Ditto with links mysteriously dying.

I don't trust Google drive, plus, this blog is run by Google, and I shouldn't put all my eggs in one basket that way either. Sendspace, Wetransfer, Filefactory, and katfile links die after 30 inactive days or less. Mediafire apparently is harsh on the copyright issue. Krakenfiles has files randomly disappear. Turbobit and Rapidgator have captcha and timers that annoy downloaders.

In addition to Workupload, these ones are still in the running: uloz.to (I can't figure out their inactive links policy), megaup.net (inactive files last 60 days), Dropbox (they say files die, but I can't find the details), upload.ee (inactive files last 120 days if you're registered), bayfiles (inactive links don't die), openload.cc (inactive links don't die), Imagenetz (inactive files last 500 days), Nitroflare (inactive files last 90 days). If anyone has any further advice, please let me know ASAP!

  1. Hi Paul,
since a few month I use https://www.imagenetz.de/?setLang=en, but I cause so little traffic, that I can't tell anything reasonable about it.

    Cheers
    Paul

  3. I still occasionally visit a private blog that has been inactive for years but the links still work! He used 4shared, highly recommend it.

  4. Hi Paul.
I have been downloading music and films from uloz.to for many years. I have never encountered a dead link in that time. Here's a page to look at and a link at the bottom to ask them questions.

    Hope this helps,
    Tony

  5. I don't know why people seem to be stirring against Mega because I've not seen anything that suggests they have any sort of stringent checking and as they have client driven end to end encryption unless you broadcast the nature of the file in its title they can't see what they are.

Anyway given these doubts surrounding Mega you might try upload.ee

    https://www.upload.ee/faq.html

It's free, fully concurrent, no captcha, no timers and they offer 120 days retention beyond last download for registered users. They do limit file size per file to 200mb though.

    Its used by this blog:

    http://disquesoriginaux.blogspot.com

And that blog has active links going back a year and more (I've no idea what their link maintenance policy is). I didn't check further back. Its based in Estonia and former Soviet states and Eastern Europe, tend not to be so rigorous about censoring copyrighted material. Equally as its not as heavily used as the likes of Imagenetz and Krakenfiles, neither of which offer concurrent downloads to any extent, chances are they will not suffer the same performance and capacity considerations that potentially more heavily used sites might (hence the relatively generous terms) and likely won't attract thew rong sort of attention as more popular sites.

As for uloz.to its a reliable site but it does have a simplistic captcha system and it does not offer concurrency. It also can be quite slow to download from during peak usage periods.

    I hope that helps.....

    1. Hi Manny,
Your comments have been very valuable. Thank you for all that. One potential red flag with Mega is that one of the links I posted just a few days ago already doesn't work:
      https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot.com/2023/03/joan-osborne-i-feel-so-good-various.html

Is that due to copyright violation? I have no idea how to check. Does anyone know? But it's not promising. Maybe I'll try upload.ee. 200 mb limit is rarely an issue for me, and 120 days is way better than the 30 days I've been used to. I would think virtually all of the albums I post would be popular enough not to die in that many days. Do they provide stats on downloads?

    2. Paul, yea, you got busted for copyright violation. You use Mega more after that happens, they will look harder at your files. Tried to tell you, just saying, due to my experience with them. Not had issues with Workupload, Sendspace, Filefactory, turbobit, nitroflare or Uploadgig. Think I have said my expierce & opinion on this matter enough, your site anyway, not mine.

    3. How can I tell if it's for copyright violation? Could there be some other reason? That album was up for a day or two, and only has a few obscure official tracks on it. That does not bode well for Mega! I called it a "JoanO" album in the file title. Sheesh! I think I'll leave the Mega files up and see what happens to them, but start using something else for the rest.

    4. Also, if that is for a copyright violation, shouldn't Mega notify me about it? I checked, and I don't see any notifications to me. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? Does anyone know? But that zip file is gone from my list of files on my Mega page, and I didn't do that. That's all I know.

    5. Paul, How long have you been doing this??? I'd think you would know what is happening on various servers. It is a copywrite violation. They have their own goon police. The best way to possibly stay clear of them is a password (Encrypted!) & file name not describing file. Anyway, if you have been running BLOG's for any amount of time then you would know all this, I picked all of it on my own, never asked anyone how, what or why, I'm pretty much a fast learner & smart as well. Good luck.

  6. Dropbox hasn't deleted any of my files. They just send me a lot of promotional emails (Upgrade! Warning! Almost full!).

You might also look at the storage sites Exystence uses, since they get heavy download traffic and post a lot of new releases.

  7. Paul, Read this CAREFULLY on your Meg download link:

The file you are trying to download is no longer available
This could be due to the following reasons:
    1) The file has been removed as it violated our Terms of Service.
    2) Invalid URL - the link you are trying to access does not exist.
    3) The file has been deleted by the user.

1 Removed by them for violation of Copywrite, Uh YES!
2 You tested your link, worked right? So eliminate 2.
3 You never deleted it, So, eliminate 3.

Your answer was Right there, Right?

    1. Actually, it seems it wasn't taken down due to copyright. I'm guessing that because I got an actual copyright take down notice for a different album a day later. Why would that do that for one album and not another?

    2. Paul, because they can, when they started that with me, soon I was banned & no warning, just went to log on & I found out then, anyway, think you picked the wrong server but I did try to warn ya....

  8. Thanks for taking the time to reupload material, Paul - what's the best way to make requests for now-missing downloads to be re-uploaded? Thanks again for all the hard work...cheers!

    1. Sorry, I need to do this alphabetically and systematically, or I'll lose track. Please wait until I've finished with that. Then if I've missed anything, let me know.

  9. Many thanks for your tremendous (does this word exist in English language -it should-) efforts in keeping the links up. THis is BY FAR one of the most interesting blogs of the web. Excellent material, great comments, custom cover art. Many many many thanks, really! Greetings from Argentina!
