Leonard Cohen - Montreux Jazz Festival, Casino de Montreux, Montreux, Switzerland, 6-25-1976

Here's another album I got ready to post, and then promptly forgot about.

If I had to recommend just one Leonard Cohen concert recording, it would probably be this one. Although it's a bootleg, it's a soundboard with excellent sound quality. Also, there aren't many good sounding or complete concert recordings from before this, so it really stands out for the time period.

Another thing is has going for it is that it's unusually long, just over two hours. He played some rare songs, such as "Store Room," which would only eventually be released as a bonus track to his first album, "Songs of Leonard Cohen." Another rare one is "Do I Have to Dance All Night," which remains unreleased on album, but was released as an obscure single in 1976.

Cohen put out a lot of excellent albums. My favorite is "The Future," from 1992. But in my opinion, his peak time period is his first four albums, which are all solid through and through. And that's the exact time period for this concert.

This album is 2 hours and four minutes long.

I don't know much about the cover photos, only that it's from "circa 1975."

    1. If you listen to the whole concert, there's a point where he credits the members of the band. I didn't hear Warnes' name. However, he did mention another female backing vocalist who I did recognize, who had some solo success. I forget who that was though. Maybe you can tell me, after you hear the concert.

  2. Laura Branigan and Cheryl Barnes were vocalists for the 56 concerts of Cohen’s European tour from April 22 to July 8, 1976.
And thanks for this great show!

    1. Ah, thanks. I mentioned this in my comment above: "However, he did mention another female backing vocalist who I did recognize, who had some solo success." I was thinking of Laura Branigan, who later had some big hits.
