Various Artists (Including Bruce Springteen & Jon Bon Jovi) - Sgt. Patrick King Memorial Fund Benefit, Count Basie Theater, Red Bank, NJ, 1-31-1998, Part 1

Here's a really interesting concert that's a pinnacle of New Jersey rock and roll. It mainly stars Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi (of Bon Jovi), but also Southside Johnny, Little Steven, Richie Sambora, Patti Scialfa, and Clarence Clemons, as well as other members of Bon Jovi and Springsteen's E Street Band. They shared the stage in various combinations for the entire duration of this long concert. In fact, since it's three hours long, I broke it up into two parts. Here's the first half.

This was a benefit to raise money for the family of police officer Sgt. Patrick King. In November 1997, he was shot to death by a fugitive while he was on duty. He was the most decorated police officer in the history of his town, Long Beach, New Jersey. Apparently, Jon Bon Jovi was the instigator in making this concert happen. I don't know how much money the concert raised for King's family, but even before the concert began, the performers donated over $100,000.

A local newspaper review for the concert said "The energy on stage was matched - if not exceeded - by the audience, which was an interesting mix of police officers, Bon Jovi Fan Club members, and at least one celebrity, Geraldo Rivera. The audience alternated between a 'Bruuuuuce' chant and squeals for Bon Jovi."
