Hudson Ford was a band that primarily consisted of the singer-songwriter duo of Richard Hudson and John Ford. They got their start as members of the band Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera, with Hudson on drums and Ford on bass. But that band broke up before the end of the 1960s. Around 1970, the two of them joined the Strawbs. They had a growing role in that band with their singing and songwriting. Their biggest success as a songwriting duo was the Strawbs song "Part of the Union," which went all the way to Number Two in the British singles chart in early 1973. But their growing role in the band put them in conflict with Dave Cousins, who wrote and sang most of the band's songs.
In the middle of 1973, Hudson and Ford left the Strawbs to form their own band. At this point, Hudson switched from playing drums to guitar, and sang more lead vocals with Ford. They put out an album by the end of 1973, "Nickelodeon." It included "Pick Up the Pieces," which made it to the Top Ten in the British singles chart.
At the time of this concert, the band hadn't yet released their second album, "Free Spirit," but they were close. So they played a couple of songs from that album here, and talked about it coming out soon. However, they didn't play "Burn Baby Burn." That would be their second and final hit. They would put out three more albums after that, before breaking up in late 1977.

This recording contained a fair amount of hiss. However, I was able to remove almost all of it with the use of the MVSEP audio editing program.
By the way, I don't know the exact date of this concert. But they only had one series of shows at this venue, in late July 1974, so it has to have been that month. For four nights, they were the opening act for the band Goose Creek Symphony, which explains why this recording is rather short.
Here's yet another plea for people to come forward with more of these Ebbets Field radio broadcasts. The recent posts of this album and the Wendy Waldman one show there are more of these bootlegs out there. Let's bring them back into the public domain so they can be appreciated after all these years!
