The New Pornographers - Annandale Hotel, Sydney, Australia, 10-12-2008

The New Pornographers have been described as an indie rock supergroup or a musical collective. However, you think of it, it contains a lot of talented singer-songwriters, including A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Dan Bejar, and Kathryn Calder, and they've done a lot of great music together. The vast majority of the songs have been written by Newman, with some by Bejar, but sometimes the songs are sung by others in the band.

I haven't posted anything by them up until now because I didn't have anything rare or unreleased to post. But I recently found a soundboard concert bootleg, so here it is. 

The band has only released one live album, which is simply called "Live!" It's from their 2006 tour, which is two years away from the year of this concert, so the set lists are somewhat similar. However, the "Live!" album is only sold at concerts and through the band's website. Also, its songs come from many concerts done over a six month time period. I prefer complete concerts like this one. 

Singer Neko Case has had a successful solo career. As a result, she doesn't always tour with the New Pornographers. But luckily, she performed at this concert.

It's not their most famous song by any means, but I simply love their song "The Laws Have Changed." So I'm happy it's included here. Also, note a cover of "Don't Let Me Down" by ELO, which the band has never done on record.

I couldn't find any good band photos from 2008. When I went looking for photos in 2007 instead, I found this one of Neko Case, from a concert in Austin, Texas, in August 2007. It would be more ideal to have a photo of the whole band, but I just really liked this one, especially the contrast of the orange and blue lighting.
