The Jam - BBC Sessions, Volume 6: Hammersmith Palais, London, Britain, 12-14-1981

Here's another album of the Jam performing for the BBC. It's a live concert this time.

Actually, it's kind of two concerts. I had a 1981 concert all ready to go from a while back. Earlier today, when I was getting ready to post this, I went to look up some more info on it, and I stumbled on the fact that there two concerts the Jam did for the BBC in 1981, both in December. In fact, they were only done five days apart. The one I had ready to go was only 38 minutes long, but I found a different one that's an hour and five minutes long. The longer one has all the songs of the short one, and then some. So I'm posting the long one.

The Jam didn't release a studio album in 1981. But they had released one in late 1980, "Sound Affects," after the last concert they did for the BBC in 1979. So this concert naturally has a lot of songs from that album, plus two hit singles from 1981 ("Absolute Beginners" and "Funeral Pyre") and one of their B-sides ("Tales from the Riverbank"). But also, the band's next (and last) album, "The Gift," would be released in early 1982, and they played a few songs from that as well. One of those was the classic "Town Called Malice," which would hit Number One in the British charts. This apparently was only the third time that song was played in public, according to setlist.fm.

As mentioned above, this album is an hour and five minutes long. It was officially released as part of the "Fire and Skill" live box set.
