Brinsley Schwarz - BBC Sessions, Volume 2: 1971-1973

Just as a reminder, Brinsley Schwarz is the most famous of the "pub rock" bands that were popular in Britain in the first half of the 1970s. Nick Lowe was the main singer and songwriter, but not exclusively so. If you like Lowe's later work with Rockpile and as a solo artist in the late 1970s and 1980s (before he mellowed out), you should like this too.

This band played a lot of rare and unreleased material at the BBC. But I've generally put all that stuff on the stray tracks albums I've made, if the BBC version was the best version available (which is often was). This series focuses on their other BBC performances, which tends to be their tried and true material that they played frequently in concerts. So this is a solid bunch of songs.

In terms of sound quality, this time around, all but one of the songs are officially released, thanks to the two official albums of BBC sessions. The one exception is "Wonder Woman," which isn't a BBC recording at all and comes from a French TV show instead. The sound quality on that one is a little below the rest, but I judged it still acceptable enough for inclusion.

This album is 42 minutes long.

The cover art photo comes from a concert in Tumbridge Wells, Britain, in 1973. The original was in black and white, but due to the severe lack of good color photos of the band, I went through some trouble to colorize it.
