It turns out he's been experimenting playing with orchestras for a while now, and this concert has been part of that. In the summer of 2025, he performed a short tour of only nine concerts, and in each one he was backed by a full orchestra. This was the last concert of that tour, and he was backed by the Berkeley Symphony while performing in San Francisco. (I think the last two songs were done with just his usual band and not the orchestra, however.)
I looked for the best sounding recording from this tour. I wouldn't have posted anything if none of them sounded that good. But luckily, this concert was professionally recorded for a webcast. As I often do, I found a video version, then converted it to audio and chopped it into mp3s.
It's interesting to hear his songs performed in this different way. He must have enjoyed this enough to make his next album with an orchestra. (He did a 2024 tour with orchestras as well.) One nice thing also is that he performed a cover he'd never done prior to this tour, "Montague Terrace (In Blue)," which was originally done by Scott Walker. Unfortunately, on most of the other concerts in this tour, he did two other cover songs, "Tarantula" by Colourbox, and "It's Raining Today," also by Scott Walker, but for some reason he skipped them for this concert. "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" is also a cover of 1980s hit by the Korgis. Beck has covered it a lot in the past, including doing a version for a 2004 movie soundtrack.
The music here is unreleased. The sound quality is excellent.
