Second Anniversary

Today, April 21, 2020, is the two year anniversary of this blog. I've enjoyed doing this, and I plan to keep doing it for a long time to come. (Somehow, I totally missed the first anniversary.)

If you've been using this blog, I'd like some feedback from you. I've got three questions for you:

1. What do you think of the blog in general?

2. What music posted here specifically have you enjoyed the most?

3. What specific artists and/or types of music would you like to see more of?

Thanks in advance for the feedback. The more comments I get, the more enthusiastic I feel about posting music here.

  1. I discovered this blog about three or four months ago, and I visit it every day. Not all of your posts are my cup of tea, but most are.

    1. I LOVE the variety of musical talent you share, and have discovered new tracks from artists that I never knew existed.

    2. The Aimee Mann posts, the Pink Floyd posts, and the "Various Songs" compilations are the most intriguing.

    3. I don't think I've see any Elliott Smith here, so that's my suggestion.

    Thanks again! Great, great thanks!

    1. Thanks for the feedback. There actually are lots of Elliott Smith albums posted here. 12 albums, in fact. Do a search for his name on any page and you'll find the sidebar where you can click on the name of any artist to see all their albums.

    1. What do you think of the blog in general?
    Simply fantastic.
    2. What music posted here specifically have you enjoyed the most?

    Mostly rock of 1960/70 vintage.
    3. What specific artists and/or types of music would you like to see more of?
There is some fun in discovering new stuff. Like I discovered so much of Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow.

I did notice the 2 new categories. Noticed that there are 21 albums of the Boss!!

Would like a specific note on sound though. Overall great job. Please keep it going. Congrats on your 2nd anniversary. Cheers

    1. I really enjoy the variety of artists you post.

    2. I think I've enjoyed the Pink Floyd, Los Lobos, Bonnie Raitt, Zeppelin & the Who the most.

    3. I like pretty much everything I have gotten from you, although I usually enjoy studio tracks more than live.

Congrats on the 2nd Anniversary, didn't realize it had been that long!!

  5. 1. Wonderful! I discovered it only a few months ago and now check it daily. I don't know where you find all the material or how you find the time to create the albums. Thank you very much.
    2. There seem to be many artists we both enjoy. Nick Drake, Joe Jackson, Richard Thompson & the Fairports, James Marshall Hendix, Los Lobos, Ronnie Lane, The Who but as I was saying, in a couple of months I haven't had a chance to check everything out despite being retired!
    3. I'm happy to see what turns up next!
Congrats on your birthday. May there be many more. Thanks again.

    1. I love the variety of artists that you post. I don't enjoy everything you post but that is my personal taste.

    2. The BBC sessions posts. I like the way you have included tracks not on official releases, especially when there was no reason for them not being released. It adds to the story of those artists.

    3. More psych based stuff please.

Congrats on two years. Keep up the good work

  9. 1. What do you think of the blog in general?
It's the variety of artists, the comprehensive nature of the compilations and your notes which make this blog stand out.

    2. What music posted here specifically have you enjoyed the most?
Hard to say. Over the time there have been many stand out collections.

    3. What specific artists and/or types of music would you like to see more of?
I'm keen on 60s and 70s but I've also enjoyed being introduced to artists I didn't know about.

    1. Thanks a lot. I've built up my music collection over several decades, so most of what I do is just sharing that. Though lately I'm finding a lot of new stuff thanks to the home concert trend.

Very interesting to hear other, non edited songs by groups, singer-songwriters... that I like so much.
For me it's a treasure! I thank you for all the work you did! Ik hope this site will stand for years!

    2. I love sixties bands above all but I take into consideration all your posts

    3. Sixties garage, psychedelic music mainly

    And Congratulations...

    1. Great blog of your own production. That means a lot of work.
    2. Allman Brothers, Imelda May, Rolling Stones, CSN&Y, Fleetwood Mac, Hendrix, Move, Los Lobos.
    3. Sixties beat and garage groups, BBC, Sixties soul.

  16. 1. Your blog is must read each day. It's definitely among my favorites.

    2. I have eclectic tastes in music. They are all over the place. Your blog provides an eclectic mix. So while no particular "favorites," each day is like a highly anticipated easter egg hunt.

    3. It would be interesting to include a bit of jazz and classical. For example, Bob James has about 40 tracks that are Japanese only bonus tracks, contributions to compilations, etc. Could make for an interesting series. Also, I personally prefer lossless files. Bottom line: these are mere afterthoughts which to me proves just how solid your approach is. More of the same would be just fine! THANK YOU for all that you do.

    Replies
    1. Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I'm not enough of a jazz or classical fan to have the knowledge to put together albums in those genres. And I wish I could deal exclusively with FLAC files, but I have so much music that it wouldn't be practical. I would need a bunch of extra hard drives.

  17. Happy Birthday, blog!

I'm happy with the cross selection of music you got here, was equally happy to discover Larkin Poe and Morning, liked your series on Lucinda Williams and Rosanne Cash and - as you might gather from our conversations in the "Morning "album thread - would advocate more 70s country rock type music. But hey, as said, there is so much variety here, there really is a bit of everything for everyone.

  19. Hi Paul

I am writing mainly to say thanks for all the stuff I've downloaded from this site over the last couple of years. I've had Hendrix, Floyd, Dylan etc. I am particularly keen on BBC material, which they themselves have managed so badly over the years. Your creation of a complete alternative Dusty Springfield discography is particularly awesome.

I have no particular criticisms or suggestions - just keep up the good work!

  20. Happy Anniversary - I really enjoy your blog.

    1. What do you think of the blog in general? Love it. The write ups on your posts are detailed and add a lot to the enjoyment. Particularly on your compilations, I get to hear the music in a new way.

    2. What music posted here specifically have you enjoyed the most?
60's & 70s US artists - Grateful Dead, Dylan, Byrds, Springfield, CSNY (solo & together), etc.
English folk rock - Fairport, Richard Thompson, Neck Drake, Pentangle (& solos), etc.

    3. What specific artists and/or types of music would you like to see more of?

  21. You do a fantastic job (as I'm listening to one of your Rosanne Cash Comps)...appreciate all your time and effort. Happy 2nd Anniversary.

  22. Congratulations! I routinely look through dozens of download sites on the internet, but this is the only one I check every day.
    1. The attention to detail and thoroughness you put into your collections is amazing. This site truly is a unique treasure and I don't know of any other that is doing quite what you are doing.
    2. Too many to list, but I especially appreciate the Richard Thompson and Robyn Hitchcock posts, particularly since I don't always come across as much of their stuff on other sites.
    3. I have lots of bands I'd love to see you do posts on if they match your interests, but here's a few in no particular order: PJ Harvey (lots of great non-ablum tracks out there), Small Faces (their catalog has always seemed a bit of a mess to me), Jethro Tull, The Go-Betweens, The Yardbirds (even bigger mess), XTC, Lou Reed solo stuff

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really enjoy your blog,it must take a lot of time to produce such quality product, I would love to see a comp rounding up the stray Ocean Colour Scene tracks

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1.- It is a wonderful blog. Different from the rest. Where, from good musical taste and knowledge, you bring us unique treasures

2, 3.- Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Van Morrison, Norah Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin,… In general, I like all good music, whatever its style, and I think that in ATSE only good music appears

Thanks for everything Paul, and sorry for my English

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love it all Paul. Just keep surprising me!
I like the 60's stuff the best, but I appreciate anything you put up.
Congratulations on the Second Year, keep up the good work.

  26. This is my daily go to Blog to see what will surprise me next! I Love everything on here. I'm listening to stuff that I would never listen to ordinarily and then going out and getting thoses artist's albums. You are opening up new doors.

I've njoyed the who, Floyd - pretty traditional but then you opened my ears to stuff like Nikki Bluhm....Brilliant!

It would be nice to see Gretchen Peters, Mostly Autumn, Steve Hackett, Patty Griffin, Randy Newman, Tift Merritt, Scott Walker

Thank you and please keep up the good work

  28. This is stop #1 on my daily blogrun. The noise level and idle chatter is non existant and the music quality is generally pretty high. I won't say I want more of this or more of that type of music, the important thing is that you, as blogmaster, post what makes you happy. The success of your blog relies solely on the joy you bring to it. Don't make yourself miserable posting what others want, post what you enjoy, there will always be some of us that enjoy it, some of us won't, but all of us will enjoy the zeal and enthusiasm you put into the blog. Thks for 2 years, hope we see may more.

    1. I'm happy with the "chatter" too. I was looking at another bootleg site the other day, and it seemed half the posts were flame wars that had nothing to do with the music.

And thanks for the vote of confidence about what I post. I plan to keep doing that. But sometimes I learn about new artists or new ideas from suggestions.

  29. Love your blog. Only recently found it. Have followed since I discovered your site.
really appreciate your acoustic leanings which I strongly share.

  30. Thanks for everything...I would like to see you try your hand at assembling Gene Clark material. There is a lot to work with, as he was such a prolific and overlooked songwriter. 34. Congrats on 2 years! Really enjoy the site. Love all your posts, some more than others, but it is nice to hear everything you post and choose. Favorites have been Stevie Wonder, Talking Heads and anything with Steve Winwood, especially Traffic. I've been re-visiting 1977-1981 new wave groups, so maybe more like that, if you have the time (ie: Cure, Echo, Psychedelic Furs, Devo, Cars, Pylon, Raybeats, New Order, 4 out of 5 Doctors, Erector Set, Radio Birdman, Photos, Suburbs, etc. etc.)
Whatever you post, I really enjoy and am appreciative. Thanks!!!!

  40. I've only just discovered your blog, so looking forward to exploring it further. I think it is incredible, and you've clearly put a lot of thought into both the production work behind it (what's your background? Clearly you have skills) and the organisation of the songs.

I've been listening to some Bowie, Neil Young, George Harrison and Dylan already, and the Alternate versions of Dylan's New Morning LP (one of my favourites) are superb. I look forward to digging deeper, particularly some of the alternate versions of my other favourite LPs. Thanks for all your effort here - fabulous documentation too, which the industry might object to but as a music-lover and musician I appreciate.
