The star here was Hakmoun, who is from Morocco. Zahar is the name of his backing band. He was one of four acts from the WOMAD section of the festival, which had a focus on world music acts.
Hakmoun had a lot of musical connections with Peter Gabriel. So perhaps it’s not too surprising that he was introduced by Gabriel and Gabriel also joined in singing on the final song of this set. Also, an interesting fact is that he married Paula Cole, who was a backing singer on a Gabriel tour when they met. But unfortunately the marriage only lasted a few years.
