Final Poll Results

Right at the end of 2024, I made a poll asking you which musical acts would you like to see me post BBC albums for sooner rather than later. Note I have literally hundreds of acts with at least one BBC album I could see post. This poll is specifically for the "big acts" where I have at least four BBC albums I've already made, sometimes a lot more.

The votes have died down, so here is the final count:

Incredible String Band           11
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers    9
Caravan                          8
R.E.M.                           8
Elvis Costello                   8
Crowded House                    8
Emmylou Harris                   8
XTC                              7
Genesis                          7
James Taylor                     6
Eric Clapton                     6
Flaming Lips                     6
Robert Plant                     5
Thin Lizzy                       5
Loudon Wainwright III            5
White Stripes                    5
Amy Winehouse                    4
Johnny Cash                      4
Police                           4
Stone the Crows                  3
Supergrass                       3
Pretenders                       2
Queen                            2
Oasis                            1
Texas                            0

I'm still really surprised the Incredible String Band won. And I'm just as surprised that the likes of Queen and Oasis got so few votes. But I'll abide by these results and soon start posting albums in rough order from this list.

Note though that since I posted that poll, I've been organizing the unposted BBC part of my collection, and I've found a few more acts with at least four BBC albums still to post. It's a shame I didn't think to add them to the poll:

Blur
Peter Gabriel
Robyn Hitchcock
Nils Lofgren
Simple Minds
Bruce Springsteen
Richard Thompson (solo)

D'oh! It's too late to add them to the poll, now, but if you have strong feelings about any of those, please let me know here.

Before I get to posting any of the above BBC albums, I first want to "clean house" and post BBC albums for those artists were I've already posted at least one BBC album and aren't mentioned above. It turns out there's a lot more of those than I'd realized, so this may take me some time. Here's what you're likely to see more of when it comes to BBC albums in the near future:

Joan Armatrading
Joan Baez
Bee Gees
David Bowie
Jackson Browne
Donovan
Richie Havens
Humble Pie
Ronnie Lane
Nick Lowe
Van Morrison
Robert Palmer
Tom Paxton
Roxy Music
Squeeze
Al Stewart
Rod Stewart
Supertramp
T Rex
U2
Paul Weller

If you feel strongly about getting some of those sooner rather than later, please let me know about that too. Thanks. And thanks for your patience. There's so much good music worth posting that it overwhelms me at times. This BBC stuff is just one small part of so much more I want to post here.

  1. Looking forward to the ISB and, eventually Richard Thompson. You have such an amazing and extensive library. I'm impressed that you can even keep track of all this. BTW, given your huge library, have you ever come across a British band, circa early 70's called Quiver (with Tim Renwick, Bruce Thomas, Cal Bachelor, Willie Wilson). They merge with the Sutherland Brothers after 2 albums. I'm curious if they did any BBC programs.

  4. Well aren't you the busy one!! So much music and so little time? Of the 7 additional that you didn't add to the poll, I only have one vote: Peter Gabriel! And of the others that you listed at the end; David Bowie, Donavan (hopefully some really old stuff), Humble Pie, Robert Palmer, Roxy Music, Squeeze, the Stewart boys and Supertramp please. Wow, where do you find all of this music??? Thanks so much, G.

  14. My preference is for the cleaning house groups, especially David Bowie, Roxy Music and U2. I missed the poling post; my bad. I would have picked R.E.M, Johnny Cash, Police and Queen. Regardless of who or what you post, I greatly appreciate your blog and all that you post. Thank you.

  18. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post any and all NILS LOFGREN you may have Paul!!!! It would be highly appreciated!!! I have countless soundboards/FMs I can send you on Nils Lofgren and his original band Grin. I also have one or two great Nils shows that could benefit from your editing magic if you are ever looking for a project. My vote is for Nils, who, if I’m not mistaken, you have never posted anything on before. Lastly, wanted to say that I really loved your volumes of covers by Elle Cordova ( and her guitarist Toni Lindgren) formerly Reina del Cid, so please continue that series. If you like Elle & Toni, you would also love one of their frequent collaborators, Josh Lee Turner. He is an incredible guitarist/multi instrumentalist who performs and publishes a ton of ridiculously great covers on YouTube. His work would make for a great series of Albums That Should Exist. I half thought you would find him on your own and I would stumble upon one of your latest offerings being Vol 1 of Josh Turner covers but alas I must have given up on that dream and now gently nudge you to consider it by mentioning it here. You may have included one of his performances in your Elle Cordova series if you scooped up their performance of ‘Operator’ by Croce. Josh sang lead and played guitar on that with Elle, Toni and Carson. Anyway, thanks for reading and considering!!! I am a daily visitor to your incredible site! Keep up the great work!!! My Vote: Nils Lofgren!!!! All the Best, Eric from NJ

    1. I get the impression you like Nils Lofgren. ;) In case you're curious, here's the ones I have from him. Let me know if you have others.
Old Grey Whistle Test, London, Britain, 5-25-1976
BBC In Concert, Hammersmith Odeon, London, Britain, 11-10-1981
BBC In Concert, Hammersmith Odeon, London, Britain, 12-12-1985
BBC In Concert, Ronnie Scott’s Club, London, Britain, 6-3-1998

I do plan on posting more from Elle and Toni, but they haven't been posting much lately. I can't say I'm familiar with Josh Turner yet.
