Lenny Kravitz - BBC Sessions, Volume 2: In Concert, Wembley Arena, London, Britain, 11-27-1993

Here's a BBC concert by Lenny Kravitz that took place in 1993.

In early 2023, I posted a Lenny Kravitz BBC concert from 1990. I added five songs to the end of it, including three from a 1993 BBC concert. Now, I've removed those songs from that album and I'm posting them here instead. This is the full 1993 BBC concert, instead of just three songs of it.

The reason I only posted three songs from this concert back this was because there was some overlap with the songs that were played. But by now I've posted so much BBC stuff, I figure I should post the whole concert, finally.

It's actually a pretty obscure bootleg, due to a sound quality issue. The lead vocals were buried way down in the mix, making it a difficult listen. But that's something that can be fixed with audio editing technology these days. So I used the UVR5 program to fix it. It sounds way better now.

The main concert here consists of tracks 1 to 6. But when I posted the 1990 concert back in 2023, I also included two extra songs. Two of my favorite songs of his from this time period are "Believe" and "It Ain't Over 'til It's Over." The latter was his biggest US hit, reaching Number 2 in 1991. So I wanted to include those, but they weren't played at the 1993 BBC show. I found a few Kravitz songs from the 1993 Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands, and they happened to include both of them. So I added those at the very end. Since they were "grandfathered in" with that previous album, I didn't want to lose them. I moved them to the end of this album, where they're a better fit chronologically.

The music here is unreleased. The sound quality is very good.

This album is an hour and two minutes long. If you don't include the two extra songs at the end from a different source, the main concert is 49 minutes long.

The cover photo is from this exact concert... almost. It's actually from the same location, but one day later.

  1. Are you sure this was a BBC show? I saw Kravitz the next night at the same venue, and the flyer says it's sponsored by Capital FM (London's main local station). Thanks for the memories in any case.

    1. Hmm. Why I thought it was a BBC broadcast was lost to time, since I found that one years ago and it's pretty much disappeared since. But keep in mind that sometimes the BBC bought the rights to certain shows, often years after the fact. I guess they did that to fill in gaps in their collections. So this could be a case of that.

    2. Maybe they did - who can tell all these years later.

  2. Hey there!

First of all, thank you for the quality of these titles! This is one of my all-time favourite concerts and you just made my day! So how about I make yours in return! :)

You need to know I do have three more songs from this concert in my possession: Flower Child, It ain't over 'til it's over, and Sister! They are all absolutely amazing performances from that day in London, 1993, especially It Ain't Over Til it's over and Sister which I absolutely love. I recorded them on a VHS cassette back in the 1990s, probably in 1994, when the show aired on French television, then I recorded the recording, so to speak, on an audio cassette. A few years ago I digitalized the recording. So the sound isn't that great but it's clear enough to know this is great music. A few months ago I found a much better copy of Sister, included in the short documentary that was released about the Universal Love Tour, Alive on Planet Earth.

So anyway, since you can work magic with your software, you might be interested in trying it on these songs! What do you say? I'd love to bring them all back together in a much better quality! :)

    1. Sure, I can give that a shot. Please send what you've got to my email, at thompson22 @ runbox.com (remove spaces). And do you know the exact order of the songs?

  3. I found two setlists that give the exact same order of the songs that were performed on November 28, 1993 at Wembley Arena, London :

The funny thing is Flower Child is not among them. So it may have been performed and recorded on November 27.

Years ago I also downloaded a promotional sample album of the tour, I don't remember where on the Internet. The cover that is included in the bundle says the songs (Stop draggin' around, Believe, My Precious Love) were recorded on the Universal Love Tour, but it doesn't mention precisely where or when. I will include all three in the mail. Once again, the sound isn't perfect.

Finally, another show from this very same tour was released recently on YouTube, recorded at Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands in May 1993. Here is the setlist:

    Fields of Joy
    Always on the Run
    Be
    Fear
    Sister
    Stop Draggin' Around
    Believe
It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over
Are You Gonna Go My Way
    Let Love Rule

So I was thinking, since your whole concept is to devise albums that should exist (which I find is a great concept!) why not compile all the best live versions of the songs we can find and create the perfect album of this amazing tour? That's what many artists do after all.
