The Rolling Stones - Ballads and Love Songs, Volume 2 (1964-2026) (A Mike Solof Guest Post)

A couple of days ago, I posted "Volume 1" in this short series. Here's the second and final album of the Rolling Stones performing ballads / love songs. Like the first volume, this was put together by guest poster Mike Solof.

A commenter named Trivial Tony posted this in response to Volume 1, and I'll quote it here since it sums this up nicely: "Something we rarely talk about - the Stones were not known for their ballads but were remarkably good at them, even though they tended to be wearier than the Beatles' declarations of love." Here's another 15 examples of that. This doesn't gather up all of their ballads by any means, but hopefully it gets most or all of the best ones.

Pretty much everything here comes from the original studio albums. However, there are two tracks near the end where Mike made special mixes to make the songs more ballad-esque by toning down the drums and other rocking elements.

Note that the track numbering continues from Volume 1, at Mike's request, in case you want to put all the songs together for a longer listen.

This album is 58 minutes long.

15 Angel in My Heart (Mick Jagger)
16 Ruby Tuesday (Rolling Stones)
17 You Better Move On (Rolling Stones)
18 Love in Vain (Rolling Stones)
19 Back Street Girl (Rolling Stones)
20 As Tears Go By (Rolling Stones)
21 Blinded by Love (Rolling Stones)
22 Play with Fire (Rolling Stones)
23 Blinded by Rainbows (Rolling Stones)
24 Almost Hear You Sigh (Rolling Stones)
25 Wild Horses (Rolling Stones)
26 Dreamy Skies (Rolling Stones)
27 Depending on You [Mike's Mix 2026] (Rolling Stones)
28 Back in Your Life (Rolling Stones)
29 Let It Bleed [Mike's Mix 2026] (Rolling Stones)

Like Volume 1, the cover shows the Stones when they were young and the top and much more recently at the bottom. And, like the first one, I don't know the sourcing for these. The bottom picture had the colors so washed out that I effectively had to colorize it, even though it already was technically in color.

  1. When you posted Vol. 1, someone commented that you had initially posted Vol. 2 instead and you had to correct it...today you have posted Vol. 1 instead of Vol. 2 so now you need to correct it again LOL

    1. I should have realized I'd accidentally swapped the two. It should be fixed now, thanks.

  2. I am disappointed that there is no source albums for these songs. I am unfamiliar with Jagger's solo albums, or later Stones records. I never heard of some of these songs. Love In Vain is obviously not The Beggars Banquet version.

    1. Hi, unfortunately, I have no source albums for this as when I went to do it I basically just went to Google and asked for a list of various Rolling Stones ballads. From there, I proceeded to YouTube and asked for the same thing and finally then off to Soulseek to do the same thing there, so it is just a Conglomeration of all those sources and their recommendations. Sorry but nothing here is rare or hard to find with a two second search.

    2. There IS source info for all the songs. Just look at the mp3 tags. Unfortunately, I got that from Mike, and it turns out the source info is wrong for Love in Vain. It says it's from Beggar's Banquet, but in fact it's from Stripped, their 1995 acoustic album.

    3. If you don't know how to see the mp3 info, let me know and I can post the source album info here.

  3. Dear Mike "Rubber" Solof,

Despite posting this comment on a blog on the Internet, imnokid must be in China where Google is *禁止*, so if you could provide a source list for the songs in this collection, I guess that should solve the issue for him. ;)
