Power to the People Festival, Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD, 10-3-2026, Part 5 - Public Enemy

Here's the fifth out of ten albums of the October 2026 Power to the People Festival. This one features the rap group Public Enemy.

If you've been following this blog for a while, you must have noticed I'm not a fan of rap music, since I almost never post that kind of music here. But I do like Public Enemy, especially their first few albums. Unlike most rap I've heard, they talk about important things, especially political things, in an intelligent way, instead of the usual about ho's, wealth, boasting, dissing, and so forth. I also like how their music is clearly based on an appreciation of classic soul music. Plus, lead rapper Chuck D has an awesome, righteous voice. It's exactly as if Martin Luther King, Jr. were a rapper. And that's no coincidence, since Chuck D has said he's closely studied King's voice.

  1. One of the things I love about Public Enemy is the political relevance of their lyrics. What I don't live is that their lyrics are still relevant after all these years. If only society would pay heed to the lessons Chuck D and Flava Flav have been teaching us. Thank you for helping share that knowledge.
