Laura Nyro - Bottom Line, New York City, 7-12-1978

Here's a great sounding bootleg concert of singer-songwriter Laura Nyro. It's in solo acoustic mode, usually just her at the piano.

Nyro is best known for the albums she released from 1967 to 1971. They are very interesting in and of themselves, but also, many of the songs were covered by others and became hits. After 1971, she quit the music industry for a few years. She got married and lived a simple life in the countryside. But she came back in 1976. She released an album that year, "Smile," and went on tour. She also released an album in 1978, "Nested," and toured again. However, after that she quit the music business a second time for another six years.

This second phase of her career, from 1976 to 1978, didn't result in hit cover versions like the first one did, so it's not that well known. But if you look at the ratings of her albums at the crowd-sourced rateyourmusic.com, her 1976 and 1978 albums get pretty good ratings. They're not quite as high as her earlier albums, but higher than all of her subsequent ones.

In 1977, she also released her first live album, "Season of Lights... Laura Nyro in Concert." It documented her 1976 tour, which was done with a full band. This recording, though, is different, because she performed without a band. It was recorded for a radio broadcast, so the sound quality is fantastic.

I found a single audio file for this entire concert. I chopped it up into individual mp3s. So I believe this is the first time this has been shared as a tracked audio bootleg. 

The concert consisted of a mix of songs from her two most recent albums and well known songs from previous albums. It ends with a cover of "Mama Roux" by Dr. John. I don't believe any version of this song by her has been officially released.
