In my opinion, the peak of Nyro's music career were the years 1966 to 1971. At the end of 1971, she got married and retired from music for five years, so there's a clear break there. Unfortunately, when it comes to live recordings, there are very few from those years, especially ones that have worthy sound quality. There's one official live album, "Spread Your Wings and Fly: Live at the Fillmore East," which was recorded in May 1971. Then there's a soundboard bootleg recording, the Fillmore East one in December 1970 that I mentioned above. And that's pretty much it, in terms of full concerts that meet my sound quality standards. Or so I thought. I recently came across this concert. It also is an unreleased soundboard bootleg, and sounds just as good as the other two, but for some reason it seems to be little known, and rarely traded. Hopefully this post will help it circulate a little more.
Like other concerts she did in this era, this was done solo acoustic. The only sound issue is there is some hiss. I didn't want to mess with that during the actual songs. But the hiss was more noticeable during the few times she spoke between songs. I used an audio editing trick to get rid of most of the hiss there, including for her spoken poem (track 5) that only works for talking tracks. (Basically, I split the track into vocals and other, and pretty much the only thing that's "other" is the hiss, so I can get rid of it.)
Unfortunately, the last song, "Walk on By," fades out before it ends. Based on other concerts at the time, it's very likely she was ending the concert with a medley of "Walk on By" and "Dancing in the Street." It sounds like she was just starting to transition into "Dancing in the Street" when the recording ended. I tried to patch in the rest of the medley from the 1971 official live album. However, the key was different and the arrangement and rhythm was somewhat different, so it just didn't work. I just left the end of the recording as is.
This album is an hour and one minute long.

The cover image is from an appearance on a TV show in 1969. It's probably the same TV show as the photo I used for the other 1970 Fillmore East concert I've posted from her, based on the similarity of the photos, but I don't know the name of the show.
