Today, April 21, 2020, is the two year anniversary of this blog. I've enjoyed doing this, and I plan to keep doing it for a long time to come. (Somehow, I totally missed the first anniversary.)
If you've been using this blog, I'd like some feedback from you. I've got three questions for you:
1. What do you think of the blog in general?
2. What music posted here specifically have you enjoyed the most?
3. What specific artists and/or types of music would you like to see more of?

I discovered this blog about three or four months ago, and I visit it every day. Not all of your posts are my cup of tea, but most are.
ReplyDelete1. I LOVE the variety of musical talent you share, and have discovered new tracks from artists that I never knew existed.
2. The Aimee Mann posts, the Pink Floyd posts, and the "Various Songs" compilations are the most intriguing.
3. I don't think I've see any Elliott Smith here, so that's my suggestion.

Thanks for the feedback. There actually are lots of Elliott Smith albums posted here. 12 albums, in fact. Do a search for his name on any page and you'll find the sidebar where you can click on the name of any artist to see all their albums.

Mostly rock of 1960/70 vintage.

There is some fun in discovering new stuff. Like I discovered so much of Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow.
I did notice the 2 new categories. Noticed that there are 21 albums of the Boss!!
Would like a specific note on sound though. Overall great job. Please keep it going. Congrats on your 2nd anniversary. Cheers

ReplyDelete2. There seem to be many artists we both enjoy. Nick Drake, Joe Jackson, Richard Thompson & the Fairports, James Marshall Hendix, Los Lobos, Ronnie Lane, The Who but as I was saying, in a couple of months I haven't had a chance to check everything out despite being retired!

2. The BBC sessions posts. I like the way you have included tracks not on official releases, especially when there was no reason for them not being released. It adds to the story of those artists.

I'm keen on 60s and 70s but I've also enjoyed being introduced to artists I didn't know about.

ReplyDelete2. I have eclectic tastes in music. They are all over the place. Your blog provides an eclectic mix. So while no particular "favorites," each day is like a highly anticipated easter egg hunt.
3. It would be interesting to include a bit of jazz and classical. For example, Bob James has about 40 tracks that are Japanese only bonus tracks, contributions to compilations, etc. Could make for an interesting series. Also, I personally prefer lossless files. Bottom line: these are mere afterthoughts which to me proves just how solid your approach is. More of the same would be just fine! THANK YOU for all that you do.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I'm not enough of a jazz or classical fan to have the knowledge to put together albums in those genres. And I wish I could deal exclusively with FLAC files, but I have so much music that it wouldn't be practical. I would need a bunch of extra hard drives.

But hey, as said, there is so much variety here, there really is a bit of everything for everyone.

I've had Hendrix, Floyd, Dylan etc. I am particularly keen on BBC material, which they themselves have managed so badly over the years. Your creation of a complete alternative Dusty Springfield discography is particularly awesome.

ReplyDelete1. The attention to detail and thoroughness you put into your collections is amazing. This site truly is a unique treasure and I don't know of any other that is doing quite what you are doing.
2. Too many to list, but I especially appreciate the Richard Thompson and Robyn Hitchcock posts, particularly since I don't always come across as much of their stuff on other sites.
3. I have lots of bands I'd love to see you do posts on if they match your interests, but here's a few in no particular order: PJ Harvey (lots of great non-ablum tracks out there), Small Faces (their catalog has always seemed a bit of a mess to me), Jethro Tull, The Go-Betweens, The Yardbirds (even bigger mess), XTC, Lou Reed solo stuff

ReplyDeleteThis is stop #1 on my daily blogrun. The noise level and idle chatter is non existant and the music quality is generally pretty high. I won't say I want more of this or more of that type of music, the important thing is that you, as blogmaster, post what makes you happy. The success of your blog relies solely on the joy you bring to it. Don't make yourself miserable posting what others want, post what you enjoy, there will always be some of us that enjoy it, some of us won't, but all of us will enjoy the zeal and enthusiasm you put into the blog. Thks for 2 years, hope we see may more.

DeleteThanks for everything...I would like to see you try your hand at assembling Gene Clark material. There is a lot to work with, as he was such a prolific and overlooked songwriter. He started Folk Rock, Psychedelic Rock, New Grass, Country Rock, Country Psych, etc. Real "Cosmic American Music".

Congrats on 2 years! Really enjoy the site. Love all your posts, some more than others, but it is nice to hear everything you post and choose. Favorites have been Stevie Wonder, Talking Heads and anything with Steve Winwood, especially Traffic. I've been re-visiting 1977-1981 new wave groups, so maybe more like that, if you have the time (ie: Cure, Echo, Psychedelic Furs, Devo, Cars, Pylon, Raybeats, New Order, 4 out of 5 Doctors, Erector Set, Radio Birdman, Photos, Suburbs, etc. etc.)

I've really enjoyed the stray tracks collections and would love to see more music from artists from the 90s. That's not a complaint by any means though, as I really love reading your posts.

The composer series Goffin/King for example are superb. Robyn Hitchcock because any increase in exposure for him is a great result.

ReplyDeleteI've been listening to some Bowie, Neil Young, George Harrison and Dylan already, and the Alternate versions of Dylan's New Morning LP (one of my favourites) are superb. I look forward to digging deeper, particularly some of the alternate versions of my other favourite LPs. Thanks for all your effort here - fabulous documentation too, which the industry might object to but as a music-lover and musician I appreciate.
