Technically speaking, this band was billed as the "New Quicksilver Messenger Service." Unfortunately, that's because there wasn't much left from the original band in the late 1960s and early 1970s. According to Wikipedia, the only original member still in the band at this time was Gary Duncan, on lead guitar and vocals. The other members were Michael Lewis on keyboards, John Bird on guitar and vocals, Bobby Vega on bass, and Greg Errico on drums. But at least Duncan was one of the band's leaders back in their heyday. Another key leader, John Cipollina, had been estranged from the band since 1975. He also died earlier in 1989.
I don't know where most of these songs aren't well known songs from when the band was most popular. This version of the band released an album in 1986, but none of these songs are from that album either. Instead, most of them would be released on the albums "Shape Shifter Vols. 1 and 2," which wouldn't be released until 1996.
This album is 23 minutes long.

The cover image is a screenshot I took from a video of this exact concert.

The songs are partly from the Shapeshifter album (1996).
ReplyDeleteAdding to the Dr's comment, Bubba Jeans, Holiday, What Did You Do to Yo Do, and Gangster Purple are all from Shapeshifter Vol I or Vol II. I could find no listing for Time To Shine.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the comments from both of you, I added a little to the write-up.
