Rickie Lee Jones - The 1979 "Rickie Lee Jones" Album - Live (A Mike Solof Guest Post)

Here's another album from guest poster Mike Solof. The idea behind it is simple. Mike was listening to "Rickie Lee Jones," the 1979 debut album by singer-songwriter Rickie Lee Jones, and decided he liked it so much that he wanted to hear live versions of all the songs. So he found live versions of every song, all with soundboard sound quality, and put them together in the exact same order as the original album.

Regarding the sourcing, most of the songs come from a concert in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in September 1979. However, "Danny's All Star Joint" comes from a concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1982. And there are three songs from significantly later: "Night Train," "Company," and "After Hours." Those come from a 2010 concert in Alexandria, Virginia. Check the mp3 tags for more specific details, if you're interested in that.

As usual, with any Mike Solof album posting, check out the PDF file included in the download zip. It has a bunch of photos of Jones and some other goodies. Also, he created a single file version of this album to avoid any brief gaps of silence between songs. That's in the download as well.

This album is 50 minutes long.

The cover image is taken from the bootleg of the Dutch concert that makes up most of the music here. Mike picked it, so I don't know the exact details. However, it's probably from 1979, the same year as the Dutch concert.

  1. Thanks for this! Rickie Lee Jones made a number of concerts available for download about 20 years ago. The recording from the Roxy in 1982 ranks as one of my favourite live albums ever. It would be great if it was available physically (I mean vinyl of course) as well but I'm not holding my breath.
